Authorities arrest Omar Maute’s wife in Iligan raid
Authorities have arrested Minhati Madrais, the Indonesian wife of Omar Maute, Philippine National Police (PNP) Region 10 said on Sunday.
Police said they initially did not know Madrais, also known as “Baby,” was Maute’s wife. Her name was included in the Arrest, Search, and Seizure Order (ASSO) number 1 list of the Department of Defense.
“A certain alyas ‘Baby’ lang doon, and then ngayon, na-discover natin na ‘yun pala ang asawa ni Omar,” Iligan Police Chief PSSupt. Leony Roy Ga said in a press conference Sunday afternoon.

She was arrested after the police and military raided her house in Tubod, Iligan City on Sunday morning. They recovered four blasting caps, two detonating cords, and a time fuse – materials used for explosives.
Ga said police also recovered chemicals, which will be subject to laboratory examination.

The police chief said they will file a case against Madrais for possession of explosives, as they have yet to determine her participation in the Marawi crisis.
“Right now, ongoing pa po ‘yung debriefing sa kanya, pati ‘yung mga nakuha natin na mga cellphone, para ma-determine ‘yung participation niya, pati ‘yung mga linkages, if ever there are,” Ga said.

Her six children, two sons and four daughters, were brought to Police Regional Office 10 for proper disposition and coordination with the region’s social welfare department for custody, police said.
Authorities said Madrais was also holding an Indonesian passport, which expired in September 2016. She arrived in the Philippines in 2012.
Iligan Police said Madrais might be brought to Manila to face charges.
“Hintayin pa namin yung order from Camp Crame, kung ano yung magiging decision nila. Lahat naman ng mga nahuhuli ipinapadala doon. Hintayin na lang namin,” Ga said.

Ominta Romato and Cayamora Maute, the parents of Maute group leaders Omar and Abdullah, were brought to Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City when they were arrested separately in June.
Ga said Madrais claimed she and Maute were classmates in Egypt, where they were both radicalized.
Maute was killed in a military operation in Marawi City on October 16.
Another terrorist leader, Abu Sayyaf Group’s Isnilon Hapilon, was also killed on October 16.
Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana announced the termination of all combat operations in Marawi on October 23, following the deaths of the two leaders.
