Xander Ford writing book on cyberbullying
Internet sensation Xander Ford, who was formerly known online as Marlou Arizala, told CNN Philippines on Wednesday that he is writing a book based on his experiences of being bullied online.
“About cyberbullying lang siya and maraming laman yung book,” he said. “About lang din siya kung paano iwasan ang bully or paano ma-bully. Kung paano magsuot, ganun.”
[Translation: It’s about cyberbullying and there’s a lot in the book. It’s about how to avoid bullies or how bullying happens. It will also talk about how to dress up, things like that.]
The 19-year-old star also said he is still thinking about other things to put in his book, which he said will be in Taglish.
“Abangan na lang nila [They should look out for it],” he said.
Xander Ford took social media by storm on October 1 when he debuted his new look on ABS-CBN’s lifestyle show, “Rated K.”
Ford revealed that before going under the knife, he talked to a psychiatrist.
“‘Handa ka na? [Are you ready?]'” the doctor asked him.
“Sinabi ko lang ho na, ‘Handa na ako,'” he said. “Basta gusto ko lang sana mabago lahat. And gusto ko sana, iba tingin sa akin ng tao.”
[Translation: I just said, “I’m ready.” I just wanted everything to change. And I wanted people to look at me differently.]
Ford also revealed he chose his new look.
“Sabi ko lang na, ‘yun lang, pointed nose,” he said. “‘Yun lang ilalagay nila. Wala silang gagayahin.”
[Translation: I just told them to give me a pointed nose. That’s all they should do. They shouldn’t copy anyone.]
Bashers brought me here
Before going into a solo career in 2016, Ford became famous as a member and singer of Internet group and teen boyband, “Hasht5.”
He was also relentlessly bullied online for his appearance, particularly his pimply face.
Despite the bullying, Ford said he’s thankful for his bashers for their role in making him a star.
“Siguro kung wala akong basher, hindi ko siguro mararating yung itong narating ko,” he said. “Siguro, hindi ko ito magagawa. Kung wala akong bashers, siguro hindi ako sikat.”
[Translation: If I didn’t have any bashers, I probably wouldn’t have made it to where I am. I probably wouldn’t have gone under the knife. If I didn’t have bashers, I probably wouldn’t be famous.]
But Ford said people who are being bullied because of their looks don’t necessarily have to undergo plastic surgery.
“Hindi ko sinasabi ‘yun,” he said. “Basta kung saan sila masaya, go sila. ‘Wag silang magpapa-apekto sa basher. Basher lang ‘yan.”
[Translation: I’m not saying that. Whatever makes them happy, they should go for it. They should not be affected by bashers. They’re just bashers.]
Apart from his new book, Ford said he is still doing shows and going on tour.
He added he is not yet sure what he wants to do as Xander Ford.
“Wala pa po siya sa plano,” he said. “Pero sana medyo maging maganda, successful.”
[Translation: There is nothing planned yet. But I hope the outcome would be good and successful.
